Bahrain leads the use of temporary structures in the region
The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) recently erecting a new temporary exhibition hall built by Losberger De Boer Middle East at Arad Fort in Manama for a full season of world class events.
Sustainability is a key feature of temporary building solutions, as they can be dismantled and reused in a new location as and when business conditions change. Given most models are already factory manufactured, temporary structure use is a zero carbon choice, compared to the construction of a new building.
For BACA, the deployment of a leading European-quality temporary venue at the internationally acclaimed Arad Fort UNESCO heritage site was a sustainable, flexible option, which could then be dismantled at the end of the year, and reassembled in a new location in Bahrain to host next year’s exhibition and event calendar.
Covering an area over 8,000sqm, the temporary exhibition hall chosen by BACA was the Jumbo Hall product designed and built by Dutch-German company, Losberger De Boer Middle East.
The largest event held in the new temporary exhibition hall was the 18th Bahrain International Book Fair, which took place in March. This biennial event showcased over 400 local and international publishers and booksellers in all subject areas under one roof, drawing more than 30,000 visitors from around the world. The 44th Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition was also held in the venue, celebrating the creativity and ingenuity of the artists in the Kingdom of Bahrain, alongside a full calendar of other events.
Edward Gallagher, managing director of leading temporary building supplier Losberger De Boer Middle East, added, “BACA, along with designers and architects Studio Anne Holtrop, has created and recreated for each major event, a fantastic, flexible space in a wonderful, historic location. Having chosen to work with Losberger De Boer, they were able to rely on our expertise to handle the many challenges of the site, including protection of UNESCO heritage assets whilst maximising space on a very tight site, plus a substantially undulating ground surface beneath the whole venue. Our turnkey project solution enabled the event organiser to focus on programming and delivering these hugely successful events.
“Following this event season, the venue will be quickly dismantled and, using the same approach in the coming years, the venue can be delivered elsewhere, showcasing another location in Bahrain while also continuing to cost-effectively promote and facilitate Bahraini economic growth,” concluded Gallagher.
With over 400,000 sqm of temporary structure stock materials across 70 systemised building products, Losberger De Boer delivers a range of temporary building solutions to clients across all GCC countries, with build times ranging from only five days to four weeks on most projects.
