According to ThisisMoney.com the new scam – Known as number spoofing – is now happening in the UK. People are called from numbers which actually completely different to that shown on your phone display.
The fraudsters on the line, trick the speaker into handing over all of their sensitive data and has led to thousands being stolen in the USA, Canada and the UK. Ofcom in the UK are now corroborating with international forces to stop this from happening, but it appears the call happen from call centres overseas.
The easiest way to protect yourself is to insist on calling your bank back. Remember, they will never ask for all of your information and will request that you return their call before they divulge any information to you.
